The Deal school District invited us to build a 336 square for a garden on the beautiful Deal Elementary School grounds. After a weekend of work, we finished the garden and had youngsters planting veggies the following week. Brian gave a lesson to a crew of students about to plant vegetables and the importance of growing organic.
Jamie chose our 3×8 foot U-shaped bed, our 3 foot tall full fence, and the ground cover option. After we constructed the fence we dug out the grass around her garden area and laid down some landscape fabric. We then built her raised bed out of red cedar and filled it with a mixture of organic mushroom and leave compost and top soil. Lastly we brought in some wood chips for the walking areas and this garden is ready to plant. We will be returning in mid May to plant some beautiful vegetable and fruit plants that we started from seed this February.
This is a simple garden with easy maintenance that will begin producing loads of food in no time!
